Lurie Cancer Center Announces DEI and COE Leadership Appointments

Lurie Cancer Center has named Marquita Lewis-Thames, PhD; June McKoy, MD, MPH, JD, MBA; Jonathan Moreira, MD; and Adam B. Murphy, MD, MBA, MSCI, to new leadership roles within the Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center of Northwestern University.

As Assistant Directors of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI), Drs. McKoy and Moreira will work closely with Associate Director, Sarki A. Abdulkadir, MD, PhD, to foster a diverse, equitable and inclusive environment throughout the Lurie Cancer Center.

As Assistant Directors of Community Outreach and Engagement (COE), Drs. Lewis-Thames and Murphy will work closely with Associate Director, Melissa Simon, MD, MPH, on Lurie Cancer Center’s initiatives to identify and address cancer disparities across Chicago and beyond.

	Dr. June McKoy is a full professor in the Departments of Medicine, Preventive Medicine, and Medical Education. A recognized expert in geriatric oncology, her overarching research aim is to improve survivorship outcomes for older adults with cancer. She is an associate editor of the Journal of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (JNCCN) and represents Lurie Cancer Center on the Older Adult Oncology Guidelines Panel of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN).
	Dr. Marquita Lewis-Thames, is an assistant professor of Medical Social Sciences at Feinberg. A National Institutes of Health-funded investigator and advocate, she is dedicated to engaging racial and ethnic minorities, as well as rural residents, in order to understand their respective barriers to care and identify community-based approaches to improve cancer survivorship. Dr. Lewis-Thames' current focus is on identifying and testing strategies to improve community-to-care coordination for rural cancer survivors.
	Dr. Adam B. Murphy is an assistant professor in the Departments of Urology and Preventive Medicine. His research is focused on prostate cancer disparities faced by minorities. Dr. Murphy has developed a transdisciplinary research collaborative focused on enhancing minority participation in prostate cancer clinical trials, and he was recently awarded a Translational Science Award by the Department of Defense to study active surveillance among Black and low-income men to improve survivorship.
	Dr. Jonathan Moreira is an assistant professor of Medicine in the Division of Hematology and Oncology. His research interests include protocol development for novel therapeutics agents for stem cell transplant conditioning regimens, management of graft-versus-host disease, clinical trials of novel therapeutic agents for T-cell lymphomas, as well as cancer disparities among underserved communities. He serves as faculty advisor for the Latino Medical Student Association (LMSA) at Feinberg, and on the Board of Directors of the Medical Organization for Latino Advancement.
