Cancer-Focused Research
My research focuses on the remarkable ability possessed by select animal species such as planarians, hydra, and salamanders, to regenerate missing parts after injury. There is a great medical interest to build organs de novo or enhance natural tissue repair pathways, and my laboratory's work seeks to understand the molecular and cellular mechanisms that make natural regeneration possible by studying the planarian flatworm Schmidtea mediterranea.
